Henry
Aguiar
“I make films about people in the presence of forces larger than themselves — weather, history, grief, landscape. The camera is a way of paying attention.”
Biography
Henry Aguiar is an award-winning film director and cinematographer whose work spans features, documentaries, and short-form cinema. Born in Lisbon and based between London and Porto, he has spent two decades developing a visual language built on restraint, precision, and an acute sensitivity to light.
His directorial debut, The Quiet Meridian, premiered at Sundance in 2023 and went on to receive a BAFTA nomination for Outstanding British Film. As a cinematographer, he has collaborated with directors across Europe and North America, bringing a distinctively painterly eye to stories of ordinary life under pressure.
Aguiar studied at the London Film School and the Lisbon School of Theatre and Film. He is a member of the British Society of Cinematographers.
